Welcome to Tottenham!
Tottenham is the ideal spot for anyone who loves the outdoors. Only a one hour commute from Toronto, this beautiful community provides so much to see and do, from nature trails and camping, to hockey games and a music festival. With so many varied possibilities to unwind and explore, Tottenham will make anyone feel right at home.
The first settlement in Tottenham is believed to have been in the early 1800s. Tottenham was so named after Alexander Totten, its first postmaster. Although a railway through the town was built in 1877, Tottenham wasn’t incorporated in 1884. The railway drew settlers to the town, increasing its population. This railway remains in Tottenham to this day, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to ride a restored steam train along the countryside.
In 1895, the town was rocked by a large fire which destroyed the business district however the town rallied and rebuilt the area quickly.
Tottenham offers so many options for those who love the great outdoors. The community centre provides areas for swimming, skating, and hockey as well as a park for adults and children to enjoy. The Tottenham Conservation Area is the ideal spot to relax and unwind in the natural beauty that surrounds this community. Camping and fishing are welcomed at the conservation area. For hiking enthusiasts, there are nature trails full of interesting wildlife and a beautiful pond. For those who prefer fun in the sun – a sandy beach complete with volleyball court awaits you.
The annual Bluegrass festival is also a fun and entertaining way to see what this community has to offer. Top any visit off with a ride through the countryside on a historic steam train. Tottenham has so many wonderful and unique amenities, who could ask for more!
