Beaverton

In 1822, Beaverton’s first settlement was established. Located at the mouth of the Beaver River, it was first named Beaverton in 1835 when the post office was built. Using pine from the Talbot River, 17 kilometers away, the first church was built in 1853. Named Old Stone Church, it still stands today and is recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. Beaverton Town Hall was built in 1911 and is also still standing in the town to this day.

Beaverton was incorporated as a village in 1884 and joined the Brock Township in 1974, establishing itself as part of Durham Region.

With many historic buildings remaining to this day, including the Strand Theatre, the Old Stone Jail and several houses from the early settlement, Beaverton offers any visitor a chance to step back in time and experience the early days of life in this town.
