Coldstream history dates to 1863 when Charles Houghton first settled in the area, naming the Creek draining into the long lake Coldstream. Together with Charles Vernon and Forbes George Vernon they developed the Vernon and Coldstream area mainly through ranching setting up the infamous Coldstream Ranch which later switched hands to the Aberdeens.
