Newcastle

The town of Newcastle, is a community in the Municipality of Clarington in Durham, Ontario. It is a great place for people who want to visit a small cozy town. It is located about 80 km east of Toronto, and about 18 km east of Oshawa and Bowmansville on Highway 401. It is also the southern terminus of Highway 35 and Highway 115.
Newcastle is a rich agricultural town with fruits, crops and cattle.

It has a beautiful community hall, several schools, a post office, churches, plazas, parks and restaurants. Tim Hortons, a recreational complex, an ice arena, a new fire hall, two grocery stores, professional offices, hardware stores, a marina on Lake Ontario and a golf course can also be found at Newcastle.

Newcastle

Newcastle has a rich history of more than 150 years. It was incorporated as a town in 1856. After the 1900s the small community grew into a residential area with a great increase in population.

The first post office of Newcastle was opened in 1845 and since then to 1910, a total of ten post masters served there. But it was closed down after the retirement of the last postmaster Mr. Charles Gray.
