Liberty Village

Previous Next

Liberty Village is a unique community within Toronto. It is a community that combines residential, commercial, and retail uses. This area is extremely appealing to young professionals in the media, high-tech and design industries who live and work in Toronto.

Liberty Village has a very urban feel to it and this can be seen by the way the streets are designed to the architecture of the buildings. Liberty Village offers its residents plenty to see and experience. There are several fitness facilities available for you to make use of in an effort to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. There are also several great restaurants making it a wonderful place for a date night, or an afternoon of shopping and exploring.

Ontario Place

A multiple use entertainment and seasonal waterfront park attraction located in Toronto, Ontario, and owned by the Crown in Right of Ontario. It is administered as an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Located on the shore of Lake Ontario, just south of Exhibition Place, it is approximately 4 km west of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971 and consists of three artificially constructed, landscaped islands. Attractions are spread throughout the park, as well as walking trails and food and drink concessions. Traditionally targeted at a family audience, with emphasis on children's activities, the park has a seasonal operating schedule and is closed from October through April, with the exception of the Cinesphere IMAX theatre and private event space. Central to the complex is a public marina and a major concert theatre. Historically, Ontario Place, as a publicly subsidized provincial agency, aims to keep costs, especially for families, lower than comparable attractions.

Canadian National Exhibition

The Canadian National Exhibition, also known as The Ex, is an annual event that takes place at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during the 18 days leading up to and including Canadian Labour Day Monday.

The Air Canada Centre

The Air Canada Centre is a multi-purpose indoor sporting arena located on Bay Street in the South Core district of Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The Rogers Centre

Previous Next

Rogers Centre is a multi-purpose stadium in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada situated next to the CN Tower near the northern shore of Lake Ontario.

Caffino

Hidden behind wrought iron gates and tucked inside the historical Carpet Factory, the massive turn-of-the-century building on King Street West, is the elegant Italian restaurant Caffino. The menu features many classic dishes like caprese salad, bruschetta and risotto, as well as an extensive collection of pasta and pizza options. The interior keeps much of the building’s gritty industrial past in tact, like the weathered brick walls and wooden floorboards, but it’s made romantic and cozy with white tablecloths and candlelight

School Bakery And Cafe

If you expect this hip restaurant to be anything like your middle school days, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Gone are the uncomfortable desks with attached chairs, fluorescent lighting and most importantly, the terrible cafeteria food. At School, dishes range from eclectic riffs on comfort food, Asian fusion salads and traditional Tex Mex with a twist. The best time to visit School though is for brunch. The menu is split into two sections: sweet and savory, with options like a caramelized banana-Nutella crepe, four cheese omelet soufflé and the Southern inspired fried buttermilk chicken and waffles.

Mildred’s Temple Kitchen

Many devout brunchers at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen came from its former incarnation, Mildred Pierce, the restaurant that helped establish brunch as the religious event it has become in the city. The whole menu is full of now classic dishes, but some favourites include the fluffy blueberry buttermilk pancakes, crunchy granola with house-made toasted honey oats, and Veda’s Choice, the poached egg dish served with a fresh croissant with either smoked salmon or rosemary bacon. Dinner is served here too—and it’s certainly delicious—but brunch is what Mildred’s has always been known for.

Vogue Supper Club

On Friday and Saturday nights, Vogue Supper Club becomes a bumping party with plenty of dancing. Before the club-goers arrive and take over the floor, Vogue serves lunch and dinner, focusing on North American fare. The menu features meaty items like bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, Cornish hen, steak frites and a roasted lamb rack, all of which come with Vogue’s fabulous fries, which are tossed with parsley, parmesan cheese and garlic.

Liberty Village

In the late 1700s and early 1800s the area now known as Liberty Village was part of the Garrison Common —a military fortification for the Town of York (which would later become Toronto). Historic Fort York, located at 100 Garrison Road, served as the base for the Canadian militia in the Battle of York against the Americans in 1813. The arrival of the railway to this area in the 1850s attracted industry, which in turn led to the building of warehouses and factories. Many of these are now enjoying a new purpose in Liberty Village as funky lofts, hip live/work spaces and studio offices.

The name Liberty Village is said to be a reference to the Central Prison and the Mercer Reformatory for Women that were situated here in the late1800s and early 1900s. Liberty Street —the neighbourhood’s main east-west thoroughfare —is so named because it was the first ground prisoners set foot upon once they were granted their release.
