Adjala-Tosorontio was a merger between townships of Adjala and Tosorontio after an amalgamation in 1994. It is a rural area small villages and hamlets inspired by the origins of Irish settlers and has developed to become a residential area for people commuting to greater Toronto. It is below the Niagara Escarpment and has beautiful rolling countryside with the Nottawasaga river cutting across.
There are numerous communities within the area with Loretto being the oldest. As a result, the oldest and most famous tavern in the area Loretto Inn. There are numerous recreational outlets with numerous parks, playgrounds, community halls, walking tracks, baseball and soccer fields.
The township came to be after a merger in 1993 which was followed by amalgamation between the townships of Adjala and Tosorontio in 1st January 1994.
