Ramara is a township municipality within Simcoe County. The township runs along the northeast shores of Lake Simcoe, and along Lake Couchiching’s entire eastern shore.
Ramara is most known for the Casino Rama, which was established within the First Nations reserve of Chippewas Mnjikaning First Nation. The township of Ramara contains multiple communities including Bayshore Village, Bayview Beach, Bonnie Beach, Brechin, Concord Point, Joyland Beach, Lagoon City, Grays Bay, Hopkins Bay, Mariposa Beach, Paradise Point, Southview Cove, Washago, and Cooper’s Falls, among many others.
Brechin is the largest of these communities. Brechin serves as the perfect meeting area for surrounding community members to gather for recreational activities due to its close proximity to the lake. The town of Brechin also features many convenient amenities and shops including a Foodland grocery store, Coffee Time, Ultramar, the LCBO, and the Legion, as well as multiple churches and schools.
The Ramara Centre is owned and operated by the Township of Ramara. There are three other community centres owned by the township. These include the Brechin Community Centre, Longford Mills Community Centre, and the Udney Community Centre.
Recreational activities offered in Ramara Township include beach access on Lake Simcoe for swimming, boating, or fishing, playgrounds with climbing equipment, picnic areas, access to walking trails, a ball hockey rink, volleyball court, ball park, among many others.

Formerly, the townships of Rama and Mara were two separate townships, and were joined together to form Ramara. Rama Township, before it amalgamated with Mara Township, was separated to create the Mnjikaning First Nation 32 Indian Reservation, home to the Chippewas of Mnjikaning First Nation. The main area of the reservation is referred to as Rama as well, and houses the area’s largest attraction, Casino Rama.
One of the main attractions in Ramara is the Casino Rama. If you enjoy gambling, Casino Rama offers a wide range of all of your favourite games. The Casino also hosts live entertainment of some of the largest musical or comedic acts within their theatre. If you get hungry, choose from eight dining establishments to suit your preference and price range. You can also choose to stay the night in the Casino Rama Hotel, which includes a spa, gym, and swimming pool.
The outdoor activities in Ramara Township are endless. Located along Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, you can enjoy plenty of water activities. Lake Simcoe is well known for its clean water, and gorgeous, sandy beaches. The water of Lake Simcoe is home to a wide variety of fish species, making it a great destination for fishing trips. Lake Couchiching is also a highly popular location for fishing, both in the summer, and for ice fishing in the winter. This lake also contains public boat launches and beaches. The Ramara Trail is a great place to enjoy nature, and offers a beautiful trail built along the abandoned CN railway. In the winter, the trail is used for snowmobiling, and is available for use in all four seasons.
